Hike the Skyline Trail
Located just north of Boston, right off I-93 is the Middlesex Fells Reservation, a state park that encompasses more than 2,500 acres of woodland and a bit over 100 miles of trails. The most iconic trail in the park is the white-blazed Skyline Trail. This rugged, rocky and sometimes steep looping trail clocks in at 12.5km for distance and 500m of elevation gain. The loop passes through all the major high points in the park, including a stop at Wright's Tower where you'll get an unobstructed view of the Boston skyline. This trail can be hiked in all seasons, though microspikes are highly recommended in the winter. Two pace options are available. (Sorry I'm not any faster) 1. Explorer: Easy to medium pace walk: HR zone 2 - 3 and we take as many breaks as we need. Estimated time around 3-4 hours 2. Fast trek: Walk the hills, jog the flats: HR zone 3 - 5 and we use it as ultra running training. Estimated time: 2 hours Typical start location is the Bear Hill Parking lot located on Fallon Rd in Stoneham, but the trail can be accessed from any point on the loop.
